Teach First Deutschland in Heilbronn
Teach First Deutschland in Heilbronn
Teach First Deutschland shows that young people in underprivileged areas can be successful by sending university graduates from various fields of study to work as teaching fellows at underprivileged schools throughout Germany. Teach First Deutschland wants to tackle this issue by giving every child the opportunity to fully realize their potential. The Dieter Schwarz Foundation is providing support for Teach First Deutschland to send three teaching fellows to two secondary schools in Heilbronn und Neckarsulm.
Committed university graduates from various fields of study, referred to as teaching fellows, work as additional teaching staff for two years at schools in a socially challenging environment. They provide support to the school staff during lessons and all-day supervision. They help where students often struggle: at transitions in the education system. The focus is on individual support, future vocation, and preparation for the school-leaving examinations.
Teaching fellows are selected in a multistep process, spend three months preparing for the two-year teaching assignment and also receive support and further training as part of Teach First Deutschland’s leadership programme. This work for Teach First Deutschland is shaping a generation of leaders who subsequently join an alumni network to promote better education opportunities.
Teach First Deutschland has been active in Baden-Württemberg since 2010. Its focus in this area is on the transition between school and vocational training as well as on providing support with integration and social participation to students of immigrant and refugee backgrounds.
